Will anyone have what it takes to de-throne 4-time champion Phil Heath? That was the question headed into the 2015, Mr. Olympia.
Kai Greene. Shawn Rhoden. Dennis Wolf. Dexter Jackson. Each of these amazing physiques has been battling it out over the last 3 years for best of the also-rans. And the majority of the pre-Olympia hype and scuttlebutt presumed that we would likely see more of the same old, same old.
Phil Heath winning, Kai Greene in second, and the rest of the major players battling it out for a top 5 spot.
Were the prognostications correct? Absolutely. Except for the Kai Greene prediction. No one could have predicted that he would not be competing. But before we recap the 2015, Mr. Olympia, let's look at the field as they headed into the show.A rundown of the top 10 from 2014:
Phil Heath - "The Gift" is a four-time Mr. Olympia champion and the favorite headed into this year's contest. A complete package with the mass and aesthetics to continue his reign as champion as long as his conditioning is spot on.Kai Greene (Out!) - Everyone's favorite (mass-monster) pick to steal the Mr. Olympia title. Kai Greene has placed a unanimous second in each of the last 3 contests. He will NOT be competing in this year's Olympia competition. Read the full story here.
Shawn Rhoden - A certified top contender, "Flexatron" has the wheels and the shreds to terrify the competition, but does he have the mass to win?
Dennis Wolf - The top 6 pinball, Dennis has placed 4th, 3rd, 6th and 5th in his last four contests. Heading in everyone expected more of the same.
Dexter Jackson - Since his 2008 Mr. Olympia victory, Dexter "The Blade" Jackson has been bouncing around the top 6 just like Dennis Wolf. And just like Dennis Wolf, most experts expected more of the same.
Branch Warren - After his two consecutive top-3 placings in 2009 and 2010, fan favorite Branch Warren has been struggling to land a competitive placing.
Mamdouh Elssbiay - Better known as "Big Ramy," this Egyptian mass monster has been stringing together first-place finishes outside of the Olympian stage.
Victor Martinez - Once considered a serious Mr. Olympia contender, since 2007 Victor Martinez has struggled to achieve a top 5 placing except for his 4th place at the 2011 contest.
Steve Kuclo - Placing 14th in the 2013 Mr. Olympia, this Michigan native jumped to a 9th place finish in 2014.
Juan Morel - After a strong of quality top 3 finishes in several IFBB shows, Juan "Diesel" Morel managed to squeeze into the top 10 at the 2014 Mr. Olympia.

Dexter is ageless. Big, hard (phallic) and looking top 5
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Ronny Rockel - Another veteran. Good conditioning last night. Not the most graceful and precise poser. Pose transitioning isn't strong. Doesn't hold his poses long enough. Conditioning off from last night. Vascular but distended belly. Glutes not tight enough. Ronnie Rockel is the same as he was in 1982 Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Victor Martinez doesn't overly impress but is a throwback to when bodybuilders looked good
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Dallas McCarver - Very impressive last night. Future star. Olympia debut. Only 24. Monster delts. Taller competitor. Superman theme. Very balanced but calves are incredible. Looks poised despite his age. Needs a little more size to be competitive. Dallas mccarver looks good, young and needs more time Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Dennis Wolf is hard and full, finally hit it. Top 3
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Johnnie Jackson - Old man dense muscle. World's strongest bodybuilder. Thick, thick muscle. Immense traps. Love songs are flowing tonight. Incredibly thick back and pecs. Legs are peeled and feathered but not as large as his upper body. You could bury a quarter between his lats.Juan Morel looks soft from the front. Not in shape. Not top 10 Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Shawn Rhoden, amazing and symmetrical. Top 3. Let's see Phil
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Phil Heath - 4x Mr. Olympia. Some said Phil was not his best last night. Coming out to Phil Collins. A little flat last night. Looks like the champion. Beautiful physique. Back detail isn't as crisp as normal. Better than last year but conditioning not as good as 2011. Good enough for the 5th Sandow. Better abs than last year. The total package. Best back double bicep pose in bodybuilding. A legend. The crowd loves him. Phil is clearly bigger than Rhoden, let's see condition Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Too soon to tell, but phil is on Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
I have phil in 1st, Shawn 2nd, Dennis 3rd, dexter 4th. Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Phil has Shawn on size, just crisp enough to hold the title IMO Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
I have Ramy 5 and branch 6
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Victor isn't top 10 but I applaud this legend. Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Pity Kai isn't here but this is still one of the better Os
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Just put dexter next to Shawn Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Front is close, Shawn is getting harder and phil isn't
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Phil just destroyed everyone from the back. Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Wish they would move Dennis next to phil
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Rhoden won side tri. Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Phil back in middle between dexter and Shawn, comparing dexter to phil probably. People don't know what they're cheering for lol
Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
Dennis looks to be 4th, I have him third. Think Phil squeezed by due to his back. Shawn won a lot of poses. Marc Lobliner (@MarcLobliner) September 20, 2015
The lineup from the 1980 Mr. Olympia. Arnold Schwarzenegger took home his final victory this year.
