Neck Lateral Flexion

Lateral neck flexion trains the sides of the neck, building a complete, resilient neck that resists impact from any direction. Lying on your side with light resistance, you raise your head toward your shoulder.

How to Perform

  1. Lie on your side on a bench with your head hanging just off the end.
  2. Hold a light towel-wrapped plate against the side of your head, or start with no weight.
  3. Raise your head toward your top shoulder through a comfortable range.
  4. Pause, then lower slowly under control.
  5. Complete your reps, then switch sides.

Tips

  • Keep the load very light to start; the sides of the neck are rarely trained.
  • Move slowly and never force the range.
  • Train both sides equally.
