Mountain Climbers

Mountain climbers are a bodyweight conditioning staple that spikes your heart rate while hammering the core and shoulders. Driving the knees toward the chest from a plank builds midsection strength and endurance at the same time, and they need no equipment at all.

How to Perform

  1. Start in a high plank with your hands under your shoulders and your body in a straight line.
  2. Brace your core and keep your hips level, not piked up.
  3. Drive one knee toward your chest, then quickly switch, driving the other knee in as the first leg extends back.
  4. Continue alternating in a running motion, keeping your shoulders stacked over your hands.
  5. Move fast for conditioning, or slow and controlled to focus on the core.

Tips

  • Keep your hips down and level; do not let your butt pike up.
  • Land softly on the balls of your feet and keep the pace steady.
  • Slow down and control each rep if your form starts to fall apart.
