Banded Woodchop

Banded Woodchop

The banded woodchop builds a strong, functional core by training rotation and anti-rotation together. Anchor a band high or low and chop across your body to work the obliques and abs.

How to Perform

  1. Anchor the band at about shoulder height to one side of you.
  2. Stand side-on with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the band with both hands.
  3. Keeping your arms mostly straight, rotate your torso and pull the band down and across to the opposite hip.
  4. Control the band back to the start, resisting the pull.
  5. Complete all reps on one side, then switch and anchor on the other side.

Tips

  • Rotate from your core, not just your arms; let your torso turn.
  • Keep your hips fairly stable so the obliques do the work.
  • Move at a controlled speed; this is about tension, not momentum.
