Suspension Y Raise
The suspension Y raise strengthens the rear and side shoulders and the upper back, building shoulder health and posture. Raising your arms into a Y shape against your bodyweight hits the muscles that all your pressing tends to neglect.
How to Perform
- Set the straps high and hold a handle in each hand, arms extended overhead in a slight lean back.
- Walk your feet forward to lean back and load the straps, body straight and core braced.
- Keeping your arms straight, pull your body up by raising your arms overhead into a Y shape.
- Squeeze your upper back and rear shoulders at the top.
- Lower under control back to the start.
Tips
- Use a smaller lean-back to start; this is a light, high-rep movement.
- Keep your arms straight and lead with the back of your hands.
- Squeeze your shoulder blades down and together at the top.
